Morning is my favorite time of the day, and what a joy it is to watch the spectacular sunrise.
And watch the distant hills bathed in the magical moment of the morning light.
There are some beautiful desert flowers that are planted right outside our "doorstep". I didn't notice them yesterday, probably because of the 100 plus degree heat.
Our original itinerary was to take I-10W into Arizona and drive north from Tucson, Phoenix to Flagstaff. However, after checking today's weather, we switched our course to North and took 180 then 191, driving through the mountainous regions of New Mexico.
Noticing the change of topography was very enjoyable.
By now J.J. and I are experienced travelers. We know that things do not always work out as we planned. Silver City located north of Deming sounded like an inviting place to stop for a snack. The city also advertised that there is a hot spring. Perhaps we should have zigged rather than zagged. Before we could spot any suitable place to stop, we had driven out of Silver City.
We were on a lookout for an elk crossing. Instead, we saw a few squirrels and a roadrunner.
Our lunch stop was to be in the town of Glenwood, what appeared to be the last prominent town in New Mexico before we drove into Arizona.
What seemed like the only commercial establishment in Glenwood on 180 were these 3 buildings. The first one had a sign which read "Colorful Hills Treasure". The middle one looked like a residence. The far end was "Mario's Pizza & Video. The second sign read, "Burgers, Calzone And More" Open Mon,Tues,Thurs, Friday and Sat 4-8:00 PM. J.J. and I knew we were out of luck.
We had a picnic lunch in our RV home under the canopy of shading trees which happened to be across the street from Mario's.
Tonight we are staying at a RV Park in Holbrook, AZ. This is the historical court house in downtown Holbrook.
We were on the road for 7 hours and covered nearly 300 miles. However since Arizona along with Hawaii does not observe the day-light-saving's time, we actually gained an hour today.
